Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup whole milk, warmed

1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

1 large egg

2 tablespoons red food coloring

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Filling:

1/3 cup brown sugar, packed

2 tablespoons cinnamon

1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened

Cream Cheese Frosting:

4 ounces cream cheese, softened

1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 cup powdered sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 tablespoon milk (if needed for consistency)

Instructions

Prepare the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and granulated sugar. Stir until well mixed.

Mix Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, whisk together the warm milk, melted butter, egg, red food coloring, and vanilla extract until fully combined.

Combine Mixtures: Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients, and stir until a dough forms. It should be slightly tacky but manageable. If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour.

Knead the Dough: Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Knead for about 5 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic.

Let it Rise: Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.

Prepare the Filling: While the dough rises, mix brown sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl and set aside.

Roll the Dough: Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick. Spread the softened butter on top, then generously sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly over the surface.

Form the Rolls: Starting from one long side, carefully roll the dough into a tight log. Slice the log into 12 equal pieces.

Second Rise: Place the rolls in a greased baking dish, cover with a cloth, and let them rise for another 30 minutes.

Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) during the second rise.

Bake the Rolls: Bake the rolls for about 20-25 minutes or until they are cooked through and slightly golden.

Make the Frosting: In a mixing bowl, beat together the softened cream cheese, softened butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth. If it’s too thick, add milk a splash at a time until desired consistency.

Frost the Rolls: Once the rolls are cooled for about 10 minutes, generously spread the cream cheese frosting over the top.

                            - Prep Time: 20 min | Total Time: 2 hrs | Servings: 12 rolls

                              - Presentation Tips: Serve the rolls warm on a beautiful plate, drizzled with extra cream cheese frosting. Garnish with a sprinkle of cocoa powder or edible gold leaf for an elegant touch. Enjoy your delicious, festive treat!
